Guide to setting up your student email on your iPhone

Posted: September 9, 2010 in Live@Edu
[Update] If you are having difficulty validating your account settings, see my emboldened note in Step 5

Following on from my previous generic guide, here is a step-by-step guide on how to set up your student Live@Edu account on your iPhone.

This is proven to work on iOS4. It should work on iPhone OS 3 as well, but I do know that in 3 you can only have one Microsoft Exchange account, whereas in iOS4 you can have multiple.

1) Make sure you are connected to the internet before you begin. If you are doing this from on-site at Anglia Ruskin, open Safari and authenticate yourself before you begin.

2) Click Settings from the home screen then click on Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
3) Click on Add Account… then select Microsoft Exchange
4) Enter the following:
Email: [firstname.lastname], e.g.
Domain: Leave this blank
Username: [your username], e.g.
Password: [your password]
Description: Enter a name by which you want to refer to this account, e.g. Student account
Now click next.
5) The screen will refresh and a Server box will appear. Your iPhone will have worked out what your server name should be. You do not need to change this.
[Update] If you are having difficulty validating your account settings, try entering in the Server box.
Click Next.
6) The final lets you set further options about your new Exchange account. Now when you fire up the email app you can view and send messages! If you so chose, you can also see your calendar and your contacts.
I’ll post an Android, Windows and Symbian guide soon.
Hope this helps!

I just modified the guide with an additional step: make sure you are conencted to the internet before you begin setting up your Live@Edu account. If you aren’t your iPhone won’t be able to find your account server.

When i try setting up my iphone 4 on ios 4.3 microsoft exchange email account it keeps saying exchange account (unable to verify account information) i have tried both servers but still can not get it to work.
      please help

I don’t have iOS 4.3 on my phone (old 3G doesn’t support it) but I don’t think the iOS version is the problem as it workd fine on my iPad (4.3).

Make sure you can log in using a standard browser first. If not, try resetting your ARU password. You should then be able to log in. Once you’ve done that, copy the hostname from the URL and use this as the Server Name.

My server has changed since I wrote the guide. It’s now But this shouldn’t be a problem – mailboxes move around all the time, and Microsoft will be able to resolve your request.

how do i reset my aru password i also cant log in to

  3. Paul says:

Worked a treat for me on my iPod Touch – thanks Steve!

  4. Stephen says:

i keep getting the response ‘unable to verify account information’ every time.
Would the email password be the same as the MyAnglia password? Ive so far assumed so and can not think of any reason as to why im unable to register

  5. Gemma says:

mine still says “unable to verify account information” so i gave up

  6. Gemma says:

Has anybody found a solution to this problem?
